Help fight spam!!!

Are you receiving unwanted emails? Or worse yet, having spam sent out using your email address as a forgery!

Southwest Affinity is anti-spam!  Even more so, I, Beverley Burklow, am actively doing my best to help fight this war on SPAM.

What is spam?  Basically, junk email.  Here is Spam Abuse's definition. Spam   Southwest Affinity has been actively fighting spam for years.  However, recently our email address has apparently been harvested and is now being forged and used to send out terrible spam to unsuspecting people.  How low will they go?  Check here

What is southwestaffinity.com doing to fight spam?

    • Trying to assist in educating the general public what they can do to protect themselves from unscrupulous marketers.

    • Each time I get a notice of spam sent out in our name, I report it.

    • I have tried to compile a list of links that will help everyone in this fight against spam.

    • I try to stay abreast of the laws that will govern spam in the future.

    • I have written my congressman and let him know my stand on spam.

Here are some sites that can help you join in the fight against spam:

Spam Cop - they will help you report Spam and also provide an email filter.  They teach you how to determine if something is spam, who it was sent by (most spam is forged) and who to report it to.  I highly recommend them.)

Spam Laws - Stay current on what laws your legislature has proposed or passed.  This site keeps you current on what laws are being passed or proposed on the Federal and State levels to help rid your inbox of spam.

Spam Gourmet - Protect yourself from unwanted emails

www.cauce.org - The Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email

www.abuse.net - The Network Abuse Clearinghouse

www.mail-abuse.org - The Mail Abuse Prevention System, LLC

www.spamcon.org - SpamCon Foundation

www.jmls.edu - The John Marshall Law School Center for Information Technology & Privacy Law

www.spam.abuse.net -The Responsible Net Commerce Site

The Outrage.com - more links to help fight spam

www.bluebottle.com - a service that allows users to create an "allowed sender list." When Bluebottle receives an email from a source not on the allowed list, a verification request is sent to the sender, asking them to reply to the email. Most bulk mailers can't respond, therefore those that don't reply will not be allowed into into your Inbox.

If you receive any unwanted emails from southwestaffinity.com please email us at spam @ southwestaffinity . com.

Don't Be A Victim!

How to avoid having your email address stolen for purposes of sending out forged spam:

Although completely safeguarding yourself is almost impossible, I have learned there are ways of making it much harder for them.  Here are a few tips I learned after I became a victim of forged emails.

1.  If you make your email public through a web site or posting to forums, etc. try breaking your email address up, like this username @ what ever your isp is . com.  The programs they use to search the web for email address will not recognize it and thus you will be safe.  You can also disguise it by using a picture such as this:

2.  When posting to forums, if you can prevent it, don't use your email address, especially the email address you use all the time.  One thing you can do is use Spam Gourmet this gives you a disposable email address which will expire after the number of emails you designate.

3.  Don't be a victim of "drive-by-downloads."  This is when you visit a site and you get that well known gray warning box that says "Security Warning" asking you if you want to download, install and run a particular program or software.  You can read more about this newest and latest assault on the unaware Internet Surfer here:  http://www.clickz.com/feedback/buzz/article.php/1584111

Join us in fighting spam!  It is up to you to fight back.
